Soaking in The Last Days of Summer

Summer summer summertime…time to sit back and unwind. Yep, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince captured it brilliantly in their early 90's hit C’mon who doesn't love that tune? But alas, while the dog days of summer are in the final stretch, it’s never too late to send some healthy reminders your way.

Stay Active. Stay Hydrated

Keep cool and mind your temperature. These unseasonably warmer temperatures can make for great outdoor hiking trips. Keep hydrated by drinking lots of water. Be sure to wear loose fitting clothes and exercise in the early morning or evening to keep your body’s temperature in a good space. Recognize the warning signs when it comes to heat exhaustion and find shade, should you not feel well.

BSun Ray Ready

Even though the days are getting shorter, always be sure to protect your skin against burns and long-term damage. Always apply sunscreen with SPF of 30 or higher. Please limit your exposure from 10am to 4pm when the sun is its strongest! Try to wear light coloured clothes and a hat with sunglasses.

Eat Your Veggies

Summer’s fruits and vegetables are overflowing with health benefits. Fresh corn has natural antioxidants and tomatoes contain lycopene, which may protect your skin from sunburn. Also, watermelon keeps you hydrated and raspberries are rich in fiber, which helps lower cholesterol. As far as I'm concerned, our friends at Longo's (@LongosMarkets) have the best produced this side of 49th parallel.  

Shape New Habits

As Fall is upon us, now is a wonderful time to keep the healthy eating and exercise a renewed habit. For starters, when it comes to the BBQ, grilling lower fat meats while sprinkling some healthy grains on your salad with a drizzle of olive oil. Also, time is on your side with longer days to start a new exercise plan.
